At the Northern Ireland Music Therapy Trust, we deliver music therapy for children in schools and community settings across Northern Ireland. Our HCPC registered music therapists use music therapy to support communication, emotional wellbeing, social interaction and development, helping each child to reach their potential in a way that is meaningful to them.
This real life story from one of our therapists highlights the impact of music therapy:
“This little girl eagerly engages in shared music making each week. She is creatively communicating with me through changing rhythms, tempo and volume, and playfully expressing herself both nonverbally and verbally in response to the music. Hand and eye coordination develops through a steady pulse and rhythm while also receiving sensory stimulation from the vibrations created on the drum. There have been lovely moments of joyful expression in our sessions.”
Every session is unique, and we’re privileged to witness children finding new ways to communicate, connect and express themselves through music therapy.
