Northern Ireland Music Therapy Trust

Services

Women’s Health

Music therapy can support women’s health by creating a safe, compassionate space for emotional expression, reflection, connection, and wellbeing. It can be especially valuable during maternity and perinatal care, menopause, and shifts in personal or physical identity.

How We Help

What this service can support

Emotional expression and wellbeing

Music therapy can help women process difficult feelings, find space for reflection, and support emotional wellbeing through challenging or transitional periods.

Psychological Relief:

Music therapy can help to improve mood by reducing irritability, and alleviate feelings of stress, depression and anxiety, supporting regulation and emotional release when life feels pressured, demanding, or emotionally heavy.

Identity and confidence

Music can help women reconnect with self-expression, agency, and a stronger sense of self.

Cognitive Function:

Active music therapy (playing instruments) and passive music therapy (listening) help with "brain fog" or concentration issues associated with menopause.

Connection and support

Shared therapeutic experiences can reduce feelings of isolation and support meaningful connection with others and with self.

Identity and Trauma Recovery:

Music therapy can provide a safe space for women to process traumas, find their voices, and explore shifts in personal or physical identity.
